“Something soothing about this story just kept me going and not wanting to stop. I loved this simple yet brilliant romance.”
Tyrell Harrell and Siena Tyson went different ways after high school but reconnected at their ten-year reunion. The roads they chose a decade earlier intersect, and, this time, the couple tries to continue the same path together. Ty’s responsibilities as a United States Marine Corps combat pilot and Siena’s history in the couple’s small West Virginia hometown combine to make the road bumpy.

In his second book, Coe demonstrates once again his talent at combining a compelling story line with interesting, well developed characters that you really get to know.. As was the case with Coe’s first book, Full Count, I came to end of The Road Not Taken wanting more, feeling totally immersed in the community that Coe has imagined for us, and sorry to leave the main characters of Ty, Seeny, and their friend Tom. At one level, the story is a romance, but it’s also so much more — a tale of life in a small community, petty grievances and more complex malfeasance, a picture of military life, and The nuances of human relations. This is an uplifting book and great read. Pick it up and you won’t want to put it down. Two enthusiastic thumbs up!

We all love a good love story with a happy ending, and my friend, E.A. Coe, has shown (in this book and his last) that he can deliver both very well. Another thing he does well is to make his scenes come alive with details he pulls from his personal experience. In Full Count, he did this with his love and knowledge of baseball. In this book, he does it with his military experience. The protagonist’s battle scene was riveting and real. Coe infuses his stories with a heartwarming and sincere sense of values and ethics. The bad guys are bad, but they don’t win. My only quibble was with his romantic dialogue, which didn’t always hit the right notes for me, but he is a new writer and his strengths will definitely have me coming back to see how his talent evolves in upcoming books.

If you have ever lived in a small town, you will relate to the circumstances in The Road Not Taken. Things steam up fast when the main characters reconnect at a high school reunion. From there, the adventure winds its way through the author’s mind and no doubt memories. You get the distinct feeling that he writes of what he knows. The reader is pulled into the emotions behind stark contemporary communications. Texts and emails burst forth with power. You’ll find integrity, love, romance, trials and redemption, obvious and subtle. An engrossing read.

An enjoyable book that kept moving in unexpected directions. It developed as the couple became more defined, they were very relatable. Not the simple love story it started out but more suspense and atmosphere. It kept my interest and I wanted to read quickly to find out what happened next. I recommend it to anyone wanting a good read.

A wonderful, feel-good love story with lots of specific references to delight Virginians and West Virginians. The characters are revealed in authentic and heartwarming strokes and the villains are just the kind we clove to see get the comeuppance. “The Road Not Taken” offers a marvelous opportunity to pause and reflect on all that we can be thankful for in this life.

This was a perfect read for a coronavirus quarantine. I started this book not knowing what to expect. The book starts in a small town in West Virginia where the two main characters meet at their 10th high school reunion. One is a divorced bookkeeper and the other a military officer. In the early stages the relationships are developed between the two main characters and explained in detail, along with feuds, family relationships, love affairs, foreign war, travel, intrigue, good friends, spiteful enemies, and mystery. This goes along while in the background a major fraud is being committed in the small town that is only recently discovered by chance by one of the main characters. Then a whirlwind of action takes place to resolve matters. The book is an adventure wrapped in a love story. It is a book that kept my attention and left me feeling good about the human spirit in the current tough times we find ourselves. I highly recommend this book to anyone.

The Road Not Taken is a romance, though it isn’t your typical love story. The main characters, Seeney and Ty, bump into each other at their ten-year high school reunion and discover their former attraction is as strong as ever. As their relationship develops, you learn about their pasts, their friendships, and just how much strength, determination, and integrity they possess. While there are a few conflicts within the story, you won’t encounter any grandiose and unlikely conflicts that stretch the bounds of coincidence; what you will find is a realistic look at the challenges a young and independent couple who are geographically separated may face. I think the real gem in the story, however, is what sets it furthest apart from your average romance novel; the trust and respect to be found between many of the characters. Sure, there are a few villains, but the majority of the characters demonstrate values and relationship qualities difficult to find in romantic literature and, really, in real life today. It was both heartwarming and refreshing to read such a charming and uplifting story of young love with characters you find yourself wanting to meet in person. I will definitely be reading more from this author.

In his first book, Full Count, I loved how the author used his characters dialogue to subtly lend philosophical gems to the reader about love, life’s journey, and manifest destiny. In his new book, The Road not Taken, Coe does not disappoint. ( Check out page 63 when the main character, Ty, gives Seeny his perspective of love. So, romantic! Or take any of the insights provided by the character Tom Burns! ) This piece of realistic fiction illuminates what it is like to grow up in a small town and the amazing connections and intersections of the lives of people from that community that develop through cause and effect. The author also includes insights into the culture and community of the Navy family and their deep connection and support of one another. Specifically, the book delves in to the emotions, tensions, and experiences families and loved ones go through when a loved one is deployed. Once the book was delivered, I couldn’t put it down!.

The Road Not Taken was an afternoon of escape. Simply written to make it a fast read with two of my favorite subjects, romance and the military. Kept waiting for something tragic to happen and was surprised to come to the end and all is well! All and All I enjoyed this book.
