Carrie Brinkley lost her job and her boyfriend during the opening weeks of the pandemic and decides she needs to reset her life. A cross-country bicycle trip from Virginia Beach to Mendocino, California, might do that, but she isn’t aware she carries with her information that could implicate her former boss in a fraud. During the idyllic journey across the continent, her greatest danger isn’t from angry animals, road hazards, or the elements—but from determined criminals who want to kill her.
As readers vicariously accompany Carrie in her discovery of our beautiful country from her seat over two wheels, they are kept anxious by the perpetual danger she faces. The story is fictitious, but the communities and geography Carrie visits aren’t. And, the challenges for the characters of the book created by the pandemic will resonate with all.
Pedaling West features a cast of interesting new personalities, but E. A. Coe fans will recognize some from earlier novels. E. A., himself makes a cameo appearance that will make readers smile.
